Obituary for Alice Fowlie

GLEN COVE - Alice Fowlie, 87, formerly of Glen Cove, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, February 10, 2022 after a courageous and hard fought battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Rockland, October 30, 1934, she was the daughter of James and Madelyn Caven (nee Haskell). There was always a running joke that she was actually born on Halloween but her mother requested the doctor change the date.

She graduated from Rockland District High School in 1952.

Alice met the love of her life, Raymond H. Fowlie, while packing sardines in Rockland. The two were married in 1952 and enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage until he passed in 2002.

Alice enjoyed the freedom her job provided. She liked the fact that she could be with her family whenever she was needed. As her children grew older, she went to work at Finest and later retiring from Shop N Save (now known as Hannaford).

Upon her retirement, Alice and her husband took many bus trips, including trips to Branson and Disney World. She also enjoyed being involved with her senior citizen activities including, knitting lap blankets and hats for the elderly, doing volunteer work for the Lobster Festival, and handing out gifts of fudge and her “award winning” no bake cookies.

Alice had a strong belief in Jesus Christ. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Rockland, Maine. Upon the demise of that church, she enjoyed her membership at the Littlefield Memorial Church.

Besides her husband, Alice was predeceased by her brothers, Brud Webel and Jimmy Caven and her sisters, Nancy Thomas and June Andresen. She also lost her beloved grandson, Rory Fowlie in 2017.

Alice leaves behind her children, Raymond Jr. and his wife Gail of Gardiner, Gregory and his wife Rhonda of Palermo, Gina of Glen Cove, Stacy and her husband Barry Spofford of Thomaston; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. It should also be noted that she leaves behind her fur baby, Penny.

A graveside service will be held in the spring.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
