Obituary for Edith B. Smith

A graveside service will be held at Achorn Cemetery in Rockland
on May 18, 2004 3:00 p.m.
Rockland - Edith B. Smith, 88, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Shore Village Nursing Center following a long illness.
Born in Rockland, November 1, 1915, she was the daughter of George H. and Berniece L. Snowman Jackson. She attended local schools.
Mrs. Smith was employed with Crockett's Five and Dime in Rockland. She soon started Edee's Beauty Shop, which she owned and operated over 40 years.
In 1949 she married Roland Smith. He died in 1965. In 1974, she married his brother, Elliott.
A former member of the First Baptist Church of Rockland, Mrs. Smith was a member of the Rockland Business and Professional Women's Club, Winslow-Holbrook Post #1 American Legion Auxiliary, and the State of Maine Hairdressers Association.
She enjoyed arts and crafts as well as playing the Hawaiian steel guitar. Mrs. Smith also loved Scottish Terrier dogs, having owned several over the years.
Besides her husbands, Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her brother, William Jackson in April, 2002. She is survived by her sister Georgia Mahonen of Rockland and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 in the morning, Saturday, March 27th at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. The Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Interment will be at Achorn Cemetery in the spring.
