Condolence From: Lee Ting, Lew
Condolence: Hi, so sorry to hear about your loss. I am Lee Ting from Malaysia. I was hosted in Thomaston, Maine as a high school exchange student in 2016. I first met your dad when I was having breakfast with my host mom Pat at The Highlands Cafe. Your dad was really a nice person. He always gave me encouragement and advice to further my tertiary education in Maine. He talked about you and I could tell that he was very proud of you. He was really a nice and knowledgeable elderly. He taught me some English vocabs and was very patient in explaining the meaning of the English words to me. I respect and miss him so much.....I was cleaning up my house and I found the name card that your dad gave me. I wanted to ask your dad about which English name I should get for myself. So I googled his name and just found out his obituary. My grandma just passed away one week ago. I could really understand your feelings right now. I sincerely hope that you could stay strong. Miss him. And sending you air hugs from Malaysia. Stay strong.

Condolence: I only got to know Al this past year, when I would often see and talk with him in the park next to Chestnut St Baptist Church. The first thing that struck me when I met him, was his interest in people, and in many conversations over several months of 2017, I came to understand what a great law enforcement person he must have been. I will sorely miss our conversations in the park. My sympathies to all who knew and were befriended by him. God Bless you all with peace and comfort.

Condolence: Hi, my sweet girl, I was so sorry to hear about your Dad. It sounded like he went quickly. You know he wouldn't want to lay around in a hospital. It's harder for the family. No time to prepare yourself. That is how I want to go. If you need anything, I am always here for you. Stay safe on the ocean and have a wonderful time! Mom

Condolence: In life the things we regret most are those we did not do. I always thought I would meet Al again and we would share some time and reminisce about the old days in Rockland. I waited and now I am reading his obituary and regretting I did not see him one last time. Well, maybe later....

Condolence: Been quite a few years since we last worked together on the Board of the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine. Al, you left a fine trail behind you of knowledge of people, guns and the outdoors. Much appreciate working with you during the decade. I am sure you will be again treated with esteem in your new venture. Take care.

Condolence: We are shocked and saddened by Al's passing. In the brief span of the four years that we have known Al, we discovered a man who was very special. We loved his humor, his insightful conversation and his gravitas. His family, friends and partner, Kathleen, will keenly miss this special man. Rest in peace and God be with you, our friend. ”

Condolence: I met Chief Ockenfels when I was just a kid in 1979 and had an interest in law enforcement. Chief Ockenfels took the time to talk to me, listen, and provide me with the steps he would recommend that I follow to reach my goal of becoming a police officer in my hometown of Rockland, Maine. I followed his advice, joined the Air Force and gained valuable experience. Eight years later, thanks in large part to then Deputy Chief Ockenfels, I realized my dream
of becoming a police officer when I was hired by Rockland, PD. I will forever remember Chief Ockenfels for the gentleman, mentor and coach that he was for me and countless other young men and
women who he helped mold into police officers. Thanks Chief!
