Obituary for Daniel Raymond Roy Sr.

Daniel Raymond Roy Sr.
ROCKLAND – Daniel Raymond Roy, Sr. 55, died following an extended illness, Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Born October 6, 1955, he was the son of Philip and Elizabeth Oxton Roy. He was educated locally and attended Medomak Valley High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army.
For most of his career Dan was a lobsterman, owning several boats over the years. He also worked construction for several years with a friend. His family said no matter where he was, or what he was doing, he loved the water and wanted to be on or near it.
As a younger man, Dan enjoyed playing on a winning men’s softball league. He especially enjoyed traveling out west with that team for a tournament. Watching sports, especially the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox was another favorite past time.
On May 11, 2003, Dan married Dixie L. Landre in Rockland. The couple began dating in 1995. Together they have made their home in Rockland their entire married life.
Dan’s family remembered playing poker and going to Foxwoods and Hollywood Slots was something he took great pleasure in. They said he once won $1,000 only minutes before his wife did the same.
Above all, Dan loved his family and friends and loved being around them.
Predeceased by his father, his step-father, Donald Harvey, and a step-sister, Vicki Dennison; Dan is survived by his mother Elizabeth Harvey of Union; his wife Dixie L. Roy of Rockland; two sons, Daniel R. Roy, Jr. of Union, Joseph D. Roy of Lincolnville; one daughter Heidi Lee of Rockland; three step-daughters, Angela Marie Brashaer of Cameron, Texas, Rachel Ann Landre of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Shauna Lee Landre of Rockland; step-mother, Marion Roy of Rockland; eleven grandchildren; and a special friend, Sharon of Warren who gave great care, support and love over the course of Dan’s illness.
Dan will be greatly missed and is much loved by his siblings Philip ‘Philster’, Cathy ‘Fat’, Felicia ‘Fe Fe’, Leroy, April, and Greg and their extended families. Dan, your boat will forever sail in our hearts. Dan has always been very close to his mother, Elizabeth Harvey ‘Ma’. He always made a point to tell her how nice she looked. Dan’s family would also like to thank his brother-in-law, John Abbott for all his love, help and support. The family would also like to thank the caring staff at Damariscotta Dialysis, for their compassionate care.
At Dan’s request, no services will be held at this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Kidney Fund, Suite 1010, 6110 Executive Blvd, Rockville, MD 208520-9813.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered ‘Come to Me.” With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away, and though we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
