Obituary for Grover H. Roberson

WALSTONBURG, NORTH CAROLINA - Grover Hassel "Robie" Roberson, 91, formerly of Spruce Head, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009, after a period of declining health.
Born in Pitt County, North Carolina, he was the son of John H. and Annie Warren Roberson.
Serving with the United States Navy, and while stationed in Rockland, during the summer of 1943, Robie met Dorothy A. Baum. Robie and Dorothy were married in October, 1943, at First Emanuel Church in Boston. After the end of World War II, the Roberson's lived in South Thomaston, where they began to raise a family. In 1957, they moved their family to Fuquay Springs, N.C. to be closer to Robie's family.
In 1968, they returned to their home in Spruce Head. They enjoyed more than 30 years in Florida and North Carolina during the winter months. During retirement they took numerous trips throughout the United States and especially enjoyed two summer trips to Alaska.
Robie was pre-deceased by his loving wife Dorothy on April 7, 2008. He is survived by two children, Dale Roberson and his wife Cynthia of Ellington, CT, Bonnie Roberson Riddle and her husband Don of Walstonburg, N.C.; four grandchildren, Teresa Riddle Abruscato of Angier, N.C., Jeremy D. Riddle of Smithfield, N.C., Christopher D. Roberson of Wakefield, MA, Emily L. Roberson of Ellington, CT; a brother-in-law, Joseph Thomas Baum, Jr. and his wife Verna of South Thomaston; a sister-in-law, Alice Baum Robinson of Spruce Head; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2009, at People's United Methodist Church, Chapel Street, South Thomaston. Pastor Cheryl Decker will officiate. A reception will follow at the church. Interment with military honors will follow in Village Cemetery, South Thomaston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to People's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 83, South Thomaston, ME 04858.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
