Rose A.  Richardson
ROCKLAND - Rose A. Richardson, 88, died Friday, December 25, 2009, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, after a brief illness.
Born in Rockport, December 15, 1921, she was one of 17 children of William and Dorothy Miller Demmons. She was educated in Rockland schools.
May 4, 1943, she married Levander "Lee" Richardson in Rockland, where they made their first home. They later lived in Portland, Florida, California and Scarborough, before returning to Rockland several years ago. Mr. Richardson died May 2, 2006.
In earlier years, Mrs. Richardson did seasonal work in area fish factories, and picking apples. As a young woman she enjoyed roller skating and went for daily walks up until a short time ago.
In recent years she enjoyed a special friendship with neighbors who watched out for her, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Demmons of Rockland.
Other than her husband, Mrs. Richardson was pre-deceased by a grandson, John Kenney in 2005; a great- grandson, James R. Kenney, II in 2001, and a granddaughter-in-law, Linda Kenney in 2006. She is survived by one son, Roland W. Ames of St. George; one daughter, Gloria A. Kenney and her husband James of Rockland; grandchildren, James Kenney, Rochelle Kenney, Julie Kenney, Kelley Kenney, Nathaniel Ames, Kimberly Ames, Deanna Kenney; great-grandchildren, Tori Kenney, Doria Morrison and her husband Michael, Amber Kenney, Ashley Kenney, Kaitlin Kenney, Kristopher Kenney, Eben Kenney, Kristina Kenney; one great-grandchild, Emma Lynn Morrison; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 4, 2010, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Maine Chapter, 80 Elm Street, Portland, ME 04101.
