Mavis M.  Richards
ROCKLAND - Mavis M. Richards, 82, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport, following a brief illness.
Born in Rockland, February 17, 1927, she was the daughter of Harry A. and Geraldine Dow Moore. Educated in local schools, she was a 1945 graduate of Rockland High School.
For more than 30 years, she worked as a stitcher at Van Baalens in Rockland, and retired in 1989 from employment at Rockland Convalescent Center.
April 8, 1972, she married Gerald E. Richards in Rockland. The couple made their home in Rockland since that time.
She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and loved her dog Tysha.
She was a longtime member of Thomaston Assembly of God, where she served several years as Secretary/Treasurer of the Sunday school.
Mrs. Richards was pre-deceased by a sister Jacqueline Robbins in 1991, a nephew, Gilbert Bryant, Jr. and a niece Linda Richards. She is survived by her husband, Gerald of Rockland; a sister, Athlene Prior of Cushing; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A service in celebration of Mrs. Richards' life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Thomaston Assembly of God, 14 Roxbury Street, Thomaston. Pastor Jeffrey D. Green will officiate. Interment will follow in Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland.
