Dorothy A Baum  Roberson
SPRUCE HEAD - Dorothy Ann Baum Roberson, 83, passed into the loving arms of God, surrounded by her family in Greenville, NC, April 7, 2008 after a brief but unexpected illness.
Born in Owls Head, Sept. 19, 1924, she was the daughter of Joseph Thomas, Sr. and Flora Jackson Baum. Dorothy grew up in South Thomaston and attended local schools. She loved to be with her family and help out in the family business, known as the Keag Store.
Dorothy graduated from Rockland High School in 1942 and from Lasall College in Newton, Mass. She majored in home economics and began working at the Mt. Auburn Hospital in Boston.
During the summer of 1943, Dorothy met Grover "Robie" Roberson, who was stationed in Rockland with the U.S. Navy. Dorothy and Robie were married in October, 1943, at the First Emanuel Church in Boston. After the end of World War II, Dorothy and Robie lived in South Thomaston where they began to raise a family. In 1957, Dorothy and Robie moved their family to Fuquay Springs, N.C. to be closer to Robie's family. She was also a dietitian for the Wake County Hospital System.
In 1968, Dorothy and Robie returned to their home in Spruce Head. They enjoyed more than 30 years in Florida and North Carolina during the winter months. During retirement they took numerous trips throughout the United States; they especially enjoyed two summer trips to Alaska.
Other than her loving husband of 64 years, Robie, Dorothy is survived by two children, Dale Roberson and his wife Cynthia of Ellington, Conn., Bonnie Roberson Riddle and her husband Don of Walstonburg, N.C., four grandchildren, Teresa Riddle Abruscato of Angier, N.C., Jeremy D. Riddle of Smithfield, N.C., Christopher D. Roberson of Wakefield, Mass., Emily L. Roberson of Ellington, Conn.; her siblings, Joseph Thomas Baum, Jr.and his wife Verna of South Thomaston, Alice Baum Robinson and Joan Baum Smith and her husband Benjamin both of Spruce Head as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the People's United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008. The Reverend Juni Shepardson will officiate. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery with a reception following in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the People's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 83, South Thomaston, ME 04858.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
