Condolence: The staff of the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) were shocked and saddened to learn about Mike's untimely passing. Through his regular participation as a volunteer, Mike was well-known in the MITA community for his spirit and good cheer. He was always ready to volunteer for even the least popular jobs, like parking cars at the Maine Boat Builders Show year after year. That Mike identified us as a beneficiary of donations in his memory is a true honor. We were all very moved to learn the depth of his feeling for the organization in this way. Through his generosity -- both life and thereafter -- the Maine Island Trail is, and will continue to be, better off.

On behalf of the staff and 5,400 members of MITA,

Thank You, Mike. We will miss you.

With immense gratitude,
MITA

Condolence: Mike was a positive and delightful person. I met him a few times and we talked about boat building, we promised to paddle together but never did. Last April mike said he was selling his boat building materials and I bought most of his northern white cedar. Now as I use it I will think of him. He will be missed.

Condolence: Mike will be missed by a whole host of fellow online kayak and canoe builders from around the world that he interacted with frequently on the Kayakforum building bulletin board. His helpful advice, experience, and points of view were appreciated by all and we are all now left the poorer because of his absence.

Rest in peace Mike, and condolences to all his family and friends.

From one of the many,
Mick Allen
