Obituary for Henry Conrad Faller

Henry Conrad Faller
SPRUCE HEAD - Henry C. Faller, 84, founder of Uncle Henry’s died Wednesday March 21, 2012 at Knox Center for Long Term Care, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, August 14, 1927, he was the son of William A. and Cecilia Wiggin Faller. Henry attended and graduated from Newark, and Union, New Jersey Schools.

Henry was Taxidermist and received his diploma from the Northeastern School of Taxidermy. He has mounted many deer heads in New Jersey and Maine.

Trained in the art of glassblowing by an uncle, Henry excelled in glassblowing and sculpting. Some of his works of glass art were shown at the Boston Museum of Art, and his “Ballerina” was displayed at the Farnsworth Museum.

In 1945 Henry joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier the ‘USS Shangri-La’ in the Pacific. After being discharged from the Navy, he was employed at Studebaker Corp., Russell Park, New Jersey.

In 1951 he met the love of his life, Helen Sonnenberg, and in 1952 the two were married and moved to Maine to live and raise their family.

In Rockland Henry worked at FMC, Marine Colloids, and later became Assistant Manager at F.W. Woolworth Department Store. For a brief time he also worked at J.J. Newberry’s on Main Street in Rockland. After deciding he wanted to become a printer, Mr. Faller became an apprentice at Bald Mountain Press in Rockland.

A parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Rockland, Henry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 136 and past Faithful Navigator of the Limerock Assembly. In 1961 he was Scoutmaster for the Rockland Boy Scout Troop. He was also a member of the Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Post No. 1, Rockland.

In 1968 Henry and his wife started their own printing establishment, “The Village Print Shop”. In 1970, they founded and published the “Uncle Henry’s Swap or Sell It Guide”, retiring in 1989.

During his retirement Henry took up many of the things he loved but had no time for. He was an avid horse rider and built up his love of horses by breeding and raising them. At one time he had four horses, taking them to shows in Fonda, New York where he won several blue ribbons. During the winter months he and his wife traveled in their motor home to Canada, across the US to California and down into Mexico.
