Obituary for William Lloyd Robinson

William Lloyd  Robinson
THOMASTON – William ‘Bill’ L. Robinson, 73, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.
Born in Steubenville, Ohio, Bill was one of ten children of John H. and Florence M. Johnson Robinson. Educated in local schools, during his Junior year of high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy.
He served aboard several Navy Ships including the ‘USS Barataria’ and ‘USS Saratoga’. Upon completion of his naval service, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, and served for a time aboard the ‘USCGC Sedge’ in Alaska. Other than Alaska, his service with the Coast Guard took Bill to Vietnam and Maine. He retired as a Radioman from Coast Guard Station Southwest Harbor in 1976.
March 14, 1963, he married Donna F. Frankland, in Eastport.
In 1977, Bill moved with his family to Thomaston, where he began employment at Maine State Prison as a Corrections Officer. Working over 16 years with the prison system, he advanced to the rank of Captain. After retiring from the prison, he served a brief time as a security officer at Penobscot Bay Medical Center.
Bill was happiest at home with his family. In earlier years, he kept large vegetable gardens. He was always busy taking care of his home and property. With his wife, he enjoyed dancing.
Besides his beloved wife Donna, Bill is survived by one son, Michael W. Robinson and his companion Leanne Palmer all of Thomaston; three daughters, Stacey Robinson and her companion John Bartley of Vassalboro, Wanda Robinson and her companion Dave Hamner of Skowhegan, Shelly Robinson of Brookline, MA; two brothers, Clifford Robinson and his wife Virginia, John Robinson; one sister, Sheila Mason, all of Steubenville, OH; four grandchildren, Hannah, Andrew and Sarah Robinson, and Nathan Rogers; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private service with military honors, was held at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Maine Veterans Home General Fund, 310 Cony Road, Augusta, Maine, 04330.
