The Funeral

About Us

No two funerals are alike.  Each family has its own special needs, customs, and traditions that bring honor and significance to their loved one.  Today  many service options exist, but regardless of one's personal choice, a funeral service offers the bereaved an opportunity to openly express their feelings and receive the support of family and friends.

Grief is the natural response we all have to loss.  Unfortunately, we live in a society that avoids confronting grief.  Our hope at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins is that we provide a safe and comfortable place for families who have experienced loss of a loved one to begin the mourning process.

Service Options

Merchandise

Many options are available when planning a funeral service. Burial or Cremation are the most common forms of final placement of human remains.   Burial is internment of a casketed body in the ground at a designated cemetery.  Cremation is the process used to breakdown a body to it's original elements, utilizing the application of intense heat.  Within either category exists various options when making arrangements.  For a detailed list of these options visit the Burial and/or Cremation pages.

Common Service Terms

Visitation
Families are offered the option to gather at our funeral home either privately or publicly to casually visit with one another before a funeral ceremony has taken place.  This casual atmosphere enables friends and family members of the deceased to share memories about their loved one, while creating new memories at the same time.

Visitation varies upon the request of each family.   Visitation is offered for either burial or cremation.  If a body is cremated, visitation can occur either before or after the cremation process.

Memorial Service
This is a service option where the body is not present for the ceremony.  However, the cremated remains may be present.  This ceremony can take place at our funeral home, a church, another public facility or at a private residence.

Graveside Service
This is a service option available for either burial or cremation.  This ceremony takes place at the gravesite instead of a funeral or church with the burial of the body or cremated remains afterwards.

Veterans Service
Any honorably discharged veteran is entitled to addition services not mentioned on the burial and cremation pages.  This service is available regardless of the type of funeral ceremony and may include an honor guard, color guard, taps and a gun salute.  Veterans are also be entitled to a flag and possibly a military grave marker.
